Abstract
We used open-ended reports of psychedelic experiences (n = 104) to evaluate the validity of the Mystical Experience Questionnaire (MEQ30). We found that the MEQ30 does not reliably identify mystical experiences, although specific subscales may be used with caution. We introduce an alternative measure of mystical experiences and their characteristics.
