Abstract

We counted academic confidantes (NumAC) from 329 students’ social network descriptions. Students also described their academic identity and completed scales of academic flourishing and general wellbeing. NumAC was correlated with intrinsic motivation, life satisfaction, and low depression. Negative academic identity, race (Black), and first-generation status were correlated with all outcomes.
