Abstract

We reviewed 4516 studies and analyzed 5 longitudinal studies on the bidirectional relationship between sleep and loneliness. Sleep quality as the most frequently assessed sleep complaint supported the bidirectional relationship and highlighted the link between sleep and social perceptions, which suggested mechanisms connecting social relationships with health across the lifespan.
