Abstract

We studied the neural correlates of habits using a within-subject design. Participants (N = 30) completed 1-day and 14-day training sessions. Habit strength, indexed by action slips, increased with training, along with enhanced neural efficiency in motor response preparation and execution. Greater reaction time reductions over training predicted stronger habits.
