Sex Stereotypes and Leader Emergence: Differences By Race and Ethnicity of Potential Leader

Research on leader emergence has shown people prefer leader candidates who resemble their stereotypes about leaders. Using a web-based experiment (N=291), we examined stereotypes about women from four ethnoracial groups, men, and leaders. Stereotypes and anticipated leadership performance and styles differed by the candidate’s ethnoracial group.
