Ahead of Time: Exploring the Cognitive Mechanisms of Future-Oriented Memory

We investigated how visual and semantic information shape memory biases toward future states. Across four experiments (N=110) using animations of physical state changes and semantic cues, we found that semantic encoding drives forward misremembering. These findings highlight the interplay between visual and semantic encoding in shaping anticipatory mental representations.
