Mock Juror Sentencing Decisions for Mexican American Defendants: Is a Counter Argument Against Stereotypes Effective?

Participants read a summary of a criminal trial in which a Mexican American man was charged with a drug offense. For some participants, the defense made a counter argument against allowing stereotypes to influence sentencing decisions. Although the counter-argument led to fewer guilty decisions, the effect was very small.
