Abstract

This study attempts to propose the grounded theory of credulity based on semi-structured interviews.  The initial analysis found that preconditions like ‘mental set,’ ‘disputed history,’ and prejudice, along with misinformation characteristics such as simplicity, consistency with beliefs, and emotional triggers (fear, anger, disgust), impede truth discernment and activate survival mode.
