Disentangling the Role of Cognitive Control in Conflict and Competition during Sentence and Word Comprehension in Individuals with Aphasia

This study investigates whether upregulating cognitive control—the mental ability to detect and resolve conflicts—enhances comprehension in aphasia. Using a 2x2 design, we examine how cognitive control modulates conflict versus competition at the word versus sentence level comprehension. The findings can advance language-cognition models and inform novel aphasia interventions.
