Preventing Post-Discharge Suicides Using Brief Contact Interventions (BCIs) in Patients with Mental Disorders: An Implementation Study of a Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial (SMART)

We developed a post-discharge suicide intervention strategy using brief contact interventions (BCIs) for psychiatric patients in Shenzhen, China. A sequential multiple-assignment randomized controlled trial evaluated four adaptive BCI strategies across 393 participants. Results indicated that BCIs, especially monthly or weekly, were effective in reducing suicide risk and improving social connectedness.
