Open Your Mind...Later: Openness to Experience Results in a More Positive Outlook on Aging and Memory in Older, but Not Young, Adults

We examined how young and older adults’ openness to experience interacts with information they encounter about aging to influence their beliefs about memory across the lifespan. Stereotype-confirming or disconfirming passages did not influence beliefs, but personality characteristics differentially affected young and older adults’ beliefs about age-related memory decline.
