A New Conceptualization and Measure of Burnout: Exhaustion Versus Reward

Abstract
The study proposed and evaluated a new theory and measure of burnout resulting from an imbalance of exhaustion and reward. Results showed higher levels of reward were associated with lower levels of burnout at all levels of exhaustion. Two types of reward were found to be most protective against burnout.
