Abstract

Using a modified free association task, we examined the length of consecutive, negative free associates (i.e., negative chain length). Negative chain lengths were longer in individuals who tend to ruminate, especially when depression levels were high, suggesting the presence of negatively biased semantic networks with strongly connected negative concepts.
