Abstract

We conducted a randomized controlled experiment (N=39, 17 males, Mage =15.92) to investigate the effects of emotional vs. non-emotional stories about scientist failure on high schoolers’ character identification, enjoyment in story-reading, and memory of motivational content. The emotional story positively affected all measures, highlighting its motivational impact.
