Abstract
Words processed for survival relevance are better recalled than words processed for relevance to other themes (Nairne et al., 2007). The current study examined how emotion state words (e.g., cheer; anger) are processed in the survival paradigm. Our findings indicate the survival advantage may be moderated by negatively-valenced emotion-state words.
