Does Signaling with Guiding Questions Mitigate the Seductive Details Effect?

Abstract

The seductive details effect describes how including interesting, but only tangentially related, information in educational materials may hinder learning. We propose two studies to examine the diversion hypothesis by using signaling as guiding questions that target key ideas in texts with students varying in their prior knowledge.
