Children As Human ‘Beings’ or ‘Becomings’?: Teacher Education Students Report Varying Views about Children’s Agency

Abstract

Ninety-five teacher education students (89 female, age range=19-55 years) enrolled in U.S. undergraduate and graduate programs explained how they would respond in a hypothetical situation involving a child showing agency at school by initiating demands. Qualitative analysis resulted in the identification of five overarching themes and researcher assertions.
