Comparison of Addiction Models, Stigma, and Treatment in the United States and India

We examined models of the etiology, treatment of, and stigma of substance use disorder in the United States and India. The Indian Sample placed a greater emphasis on SUD being a moral failing, focused more on traditional and spiritual-based interventions, and extended stigma to families of people with SUD.
