The Influence of Defense Attorney Arguments and PTSD Diagnosis Timing on Mock Juror Guilt Ratings in a Military Veteran Murder Trial

This experiment examined the influence of attorney arguments on 597 U.S. mock jurors’ guilt ratings in a murder trial with a military veteran defendant. Jurors rated defense attorney arguments as significantly more influential when the defendant’s PTSD diagnosis was made one year before trial compared to five years before trial.
