Abstract
We explored how rewards influence voluntary utilization of visual working memory (VWM) using a copying task. Four experiments with 25 participants each showed that rewards drive the adjustment of VWM utilization , even with increased cognitive cost. Findings align with value-based decision-making framework, highlighting VWM's cost-benefit optimization in real-world scenarios.
