Abstract

We surveyed 335 employees to investigate how income amount and income salience influence performance and well-being. Higher income predicted better outcomes through reduced need frustration, while greater income salience predicted worse outcomes through increased need frustration. Managerial autonomy support strongly predicted lower need frustration regardless of income factors.
