Abstract

Why do individuals misjudge how much others like them? This may stem from an empathy gap—underestimating how effectively one’s empathy is perceived. In 33 same-sex dyads, we examined emotion alignment, perceived empathy, and post-conversation liking. Results revealed that undervalued empathy is a key driver of the liking gap.
