Aging Decreases Emotional Response Inhibition, but Inhibition Does Not Differ between Pleasant and Unpleasant Images

Abstract

This study investigated how well younger and older adults could stop responses to pleasant and unpleasant scenes (i.e., emotional response inhibition) using a variation of the Stop Signal Task. We observed that older adults implement similar evaluative processing of pleasant versus unpleasant information as younger adults, but less efficiently.
