Online Language Learning during the Pandemic: Perceived Learning Climate and Need Satisfaction Predicted Perceived Learning Gains and Course Satisfaction

Abstract

This study investigated the explanatory power of motivational processes for language learners’ perceived learning gains and overall course satisfaction in pandemic-forced online learning environments when no alternative instructional modes were available. Learners’ perceived autonomy support in the learning climate and need satisfaction were found predictive of the outcomes of interest.
