Older and young adults were compared on the rate of semantic illusions for simple versus complex syntax structures. The significant interaction indicated older adults detected illusory words more frequently in complex syntax compared to simple. Young adults did not produce this pattern, suggesting older adults’ increased language ability facilitated detection.
