Internet-Use-Induced Forgetting: Looking for More Information Online Can Make You Forget What You Already Know

Abstract

Three experiments show that searching for information online can make people forget related information that was studied on paper. This effect is potentially caused by learners becoming fixated by the online context when trying to remember what they know about a given topic.
