Self-Worth As a Partial Mediator between Maternal Disorganized Caregiving and Children’s Self-Worth in Later Middle Childhood

In 112 mother-child dyads (Mage = 11.69), disorganized caregiving related to children’s poorer emotion regulation and self-worth. Children’s difficulties in emotion regulation mediated the relation between disorganized caregiving and global self-worth. Thus, disorganized caregiving may set the stage for children’s poorer emotion regulation abilities and self-worth.
