Standing out or Fitting in: How Adolescents and Young Adults Use Facebook to Advance Civic Goals

Adolescents and young adults (n=146) who support social causes online face a tension between advocating for personal interests and acknowledging how they might cause harm.  Volunteers sought to actively fit into civic organizations and not assert ideas via aggressive means, fostering a harmonious, compassionate digital space for civic action.
