That's a Problem for Future Me: The Relative Influence of Future Self Continuity and Temporal Discounting on Procrastination

Abstract

We investigated the relationship between procrastination and two time based effects, temporal discounting and future self continuity. After controlling for discount rate, future self continuity approached significance as a predictor of procrastination. Results are discussed in light of temporal motivation theory and alternative explanations for individual differences in procrastination.
