Objectifying Experiences and Media Consumption Predict Self-Objectification in Lesbians

Abstract

We surveyed 360 cis lesbian women (Mage = 27). Experiences of sexual objectification were measured using the Sexual Minority Women’s-Sexual Objectification Experiences scale. In regression analyses, sexual objectification experiences and social/traditional media consumption positively predicted self-objectification. Surprisingly, feminist identity (Self-Identification as a Feminist scale) also positively predicted self-objectification.
