The Psychological Structure of Trait Impressions from Faces Evaluated without Language

We conducted a novel experiment on 1,751 online participants to measure their trait similarity judgements of 100 representative face images, without using preselected trait words. The results with strong consensus revealed a five-dimensional structure, offering empirical evidence that helped resolve debates on “warmth vs sociability” and “competence vs dominance”.
