Gendered Recall and Reactions to Appearance-Based Compliments

This study explored the types of compliments men and women recalled receiving and their responses to these compliments. Consistent with objectification theory, the unwanted compliments women recalled receiving were more likely to be sexualized or appearance-focused and were more likely to lead to feelings of disgust.
