Abstract
Across an initial and replication study (total N=203), we demonstrate that inference of others' emotions draws upon judgments of their personality traits, combined with idiosyncratic beliefs about how traits and emotions relate. Accurate emotion inferences depend on accurate trait-emotion mapping beliefs, accurate trait judgments, and the extent they are utilised.
