Abstract
The present systematic review will summarize longitudinal findings in the past 20 years on how internalizing/externalizing symptoms predict later substance use disorder (SUD) symptoms in adolescence. We expect to see a strong link between externalizing symptoms and subsequent SUD and a weaker, moderated link between internalizing symptoms and SUD.
