Academic Confidantes and Academic Self-Identification Predict Flourishing in an Academic Role

Abstract

Students’ number of academic confidantes (NumAC) correlated with their academic identification (academic identity congruence [AIC]). NumAC and AIC correlated with a latent academic flourishing variable. In a second sample of incoming first-years, NumAC and AIC correlated only with life satisfaction and loneliness. Results support an emerging model of academic identification.
