Coping with Stress: The Implicit Affiliation Motive Promotes Stress Regulation through Tend-and-Befriend When Using Content-Coded and Software-Based Motive Scores

We measured the stress-regulation strategies of 290 participants (225 women, M_age = 33.7) and used two coding systems to obtain implicit motive scores from picture story exercises. The correlation coefficients between the coding systems were small. The implicit affiliation motive promoted tend-and-befriend behavior irrespective of the coding system used.
