Harnessing Group-Based Pride to Motivate Intergroup Reparations

We examined how distinct facets of group-based moral pride (GMP) regulate ingroup members' responses to their ingroup's immoral history. Across three correlational and two experimental studies (N = 3,038), authentic GMP promoted guilt and moral shame, and in turn, reparations; while hubristic GMP promoted image shame, and in turn, avoidance.
