Visual Distractor Suppression Relies on Consistent Search Goals

Abstract
We tested the ability to consistently suppress visually distracting information and found evidence for salient distractor suppression. However, successful behavioral suppression of distractors and corresponding electrophysiological signatures (using EEG) were not observed when intermittent trials were inserted where the task changed from ignoring distractors to actively searching for them.
