Examining Parent-Child Talks during Math Explicit and Implicit Activities

Abstract

We examined interactions from 119 parent-child dyads’ during a math explicit and a math implicit activity. Both parents and children produced significantly higher percentage of number talks in the math explicit activity than the math implicit activity. The result indicated a need for spontaneous attention to the invisible math content.
