Draw a Scientist: How Do Elementary-Aged Students View Gender in the Science Workforce?

Abstract
182 students, aged 5-13, (grades K-8), participated in a DAST to determine the effects of gender perception of the science workforce. Students were asked to draw and name a specific scientist. Results indicated that as the child's age increased, the number of girls who drew a female scientist decreased.
