Abstract

In a 21-day ecological momentary assessment study, state controllability significantly predicted momentary distress when controlling for gender, age, race and ethnicity. The use of reappraisal in a controllable context also significantly predicted distress. These findings highlight the importance of context when examining the adaptiveness of emotion regulation strategies.
