Abstract

This study examined the relation between racial identity (i.e., public regard, racial centrality, and private regard) and low self-esteem for African Americans. A total of 174 participant responses were analyzed. Results demonstrated that racial identity predicted low self-esteem, and private regard buffered the relationship between perceived racism and low self-esteem.
