Abstract
We introduce the Socially Oriented Media (SOM) Buffering Perspective, investigating how SOM protects against mental health issues of LGBTQ teens. Using ABCD study data, increased SOM screen time is linked to reduced depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation when cyberbullying is not present. SOM's can buffer mental health for LGBTQ youth.
