Lawyer Drinking Behaviors: Nuances Revealed By Classification and Regression Tree Analysis

We used a machine learning technique to investigate predictors of the alarming rate of problematic alcohol use among a sample of 2,863 lawyers. The best predictors were current or former substance use, level of problematic substance use consequences, stress, and workplace support for alcohol use, but interactions mattered.
