Deriving Models of Change with Interpretable Parameters: Linear Estimation with Nonlinear Inference

There is a disconnect between theoretical models of change – described by inflections and developmental transitions – and standard linear statistical models. I derived a series of multilevel and structural equation model techniques to capture nonlinear parameters reflecting theoretically-meaningful developmental features while retaining the many estimation advantages of linear models.
