Externalizing Traits Are Linked to Enhanced Learning about Costs in Unpredictable Contexts

Using a novel probabilistic learning task, we found that higher levels of externalizing traits showed greater weighing of recent costs in unpredictable contexts, ultimately facilitating more adaptive learning in these contexts. Results are striking compared to extant work indicating overall poorer learning among higher externalizing individuals.
