Coach Support and Athletic Identity Affect an Athlete’s Attitude Towards Mental Health Treatment

This study aimed to identify relationships between coach support, athletic identity, and self-pluralism on student-athletes’ attitudes toward seeking mental health treatment. 302 collegiate athletes were sampled for the study. Results found significant, positive correlations between supportive coaching styles and attitudes toward seeking treatment, with athletic identity marginally moderating this effect.
