Abstract
Our study, which consisted of 1,415 undergraduate students (82.5% female, Mage = 21), found difficulties with emotion regulation to moderate the positive association between defeatist performance beliefs and depressive symptoms. Effective emotion regulation was found to weaken this association, highlighting its significance in understanding and potentially intervening in depression.
