Abstract

Our studies examined whether and how guilt reduces dehumanization, the perception of others as less than human. Across three studies, we found that dispositional guilt-proneness is negatively correlated with dehumanization and that induced guilt emotion mitigates dehumanization, which is mediated by the lowered sense of psychological entitlement.
