Association between Community Violence Exposure and Affect in Response to Evocative Art

In this study, we found preliminary evidence that community violence exposure is associated with higher negative affect in response to images low in provocativeness but lower negative affect in response to images high in provocativeness. This suggests support for the desensitization theory may extend beyond violence-related stimuli.
